Empowering future leaders for a sustainable tomorrow

 
MUSCAT: The Sustainable Leaders Youth Camp (SLY), organised by Carbon6, concluded its impactful two-day event, leaving a lasting impression on 53 young participants who embody the future of sustainability leadership.

Took place on May 10 and 11, the camp served as a vibrant platform for youth to tackle pressing environmental and social issues, fostering innovation and leadership in sustainability.

Out of 281 initial applicants, 53 exceptional young minds were chosen to attend the SLY camp, showcasing their unwavering dedication and passion for creating positive change.

Throughout the event, participants engaged in workshops, interactive activities, and inspirational talks, equipping themselves with the skills and mindset needed to address the challenges of tomorrow.

The closing ceremony on May 11 was graced by Dr Hashil al Mahrouqi, CEO of Omran, as the guest of honour. Omran’s platinum sponsorship reflects a strong commitment to sustainability and youth development.

Additionally, be’ah’s participation as a golden partner brought valuable perspectives on environmental conservation, while the strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth highlighted governmental support for empowering young individuals and advancing sustainable development.

The SLY camp featured enlightening talks by esteemed speakers: Debbie Richardson, Senior Corporate Affairs Strategist; Talal Hassan, CEO of 44.01; and Nick Little, Community Outreach Coordinator at Waste Lab.

These talks delivered invaluable insights and motivation, encompassing a range of sustainability and innovation topics.

Dr Hashil al Mahrouqi commended the participants’ dedication during the final ceremony, where awards were presented in categories such as: Best Idea in Innovation and Technology; Best Idea in Circular Economy and Environment; Best Idea in Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality; and Best-Performing Team.

With esteemed partners and a thoughtfully crafted agenda, the SLY camp is primed to nurture the upcoming generation of leaders committed to instigating positive change and shaping a more sustainable future.
