MUSCAT: The Oman national chess team is participating in the seventh Sharjah Masters International chess tournament, hosted by the Sharjah Chess Cultural Club from May 14 to 23. The tournament features 300 players from 60 countries.

The Omani national chess team is represented by six players: Mohammed Khalfan al Saadi, Rashid al Jabari, Saeed Ahmed al Maamari, Khalfan al Hosni, Rashid Ali al Balushi and Mazen al Hanbali. The team's training during the tournament will be led by coach Bashir al Qadimi.



In preparation for this major international tournament, the Oman national team has undergone training sessions via video conferencing under the supervision of Kazakhstani coach Dmitry Sasvikan. The tournament brings together top grandmasters, international players and title holders from around the world.

Among the participants are defending champion India's Arjun Erigaisi, Iranian youth world champion Parham Maghsoodloo, Chinese player Yu Yangyi, Azerbaijani World Cup winner Teymur Rejabov and Iranian Sharjah Masters champion in its fourth edition, Amin Tabatabaei.
