MUSCAT: Seeb club retained the title of 2023-2024 OFA Cup after they defeated Bahla 5-4 on penalties after the regulation time ended in a goalless draw in the final clash at Seeb Stadium late on Tuesday. It was a similar scenario of the last season as Seeb had won the title by 6-5 on penalties after a goalless draw against the same opponents Bahla.
The triumph marked another title for Muscat-based team in this season as they managed to earn second title within a week's time after Seeb were crowned champions of the 2023-2024 Omantel League officially last Tuesday. Seeb edged Bahla 1-0 in the 20th week as they reached to 51 points with 11 points difference than Al Nahdha who are in second position.
Later, chief guest HH Sayyid Nadir bin Al Julanda bin Majid al Said, Secretary-General at the Diwan of Royal Court, presented the trophy to Seeb captain Eid al Farsi in the presence of officials from Oman Football Association (OFA) and representatives from both clubs.
In the final, both halves ended in a goalless draw after the teams' strikers failed to score from some of the opportunities. There were various scoring attempts missed by both the teams. Seeb were the better side in the match while Bahla pressed hard in the last part of the second half through movement of young player Nasser al Saqri but without scoring any goals.
In the penalty shoot-out, Seeb players including Abulaziz al Maqbali, Mohammed al Musallami, Mohammed Ramadhan, Omar al Fazari and Mohsin al Ghassani converted their penalties to goals. Bahla’s Nasser al Saqri's penalty was saved by Seeb goalkeeper Ahmed al Rawahi while Olivera, Mazin, Mohammed and Locki Fezmi managed to score their penalty kicks. The penalties ended in favour of Seeb at 5-4 to the joy of the home fans.
