Ibri Chess Classic sees good competition

Muscat: The Ibri Open International Classic Chess Championship, organised by the Oman Chess Committee, witnessed strong competition at the end of the second round, which is being held from May 8 to 10 at the Ibri Sports Complex.
The first and second rounds witnessed fierce and exciting competition, with several players topping the rounds with two points, including Hamood al Busaidi, Qasi al Hanaei, Osama al Daroushi, Sudan's Hussein Mohamed, Indian players Azan Shafiq, Shaibi, Akxubia and Egypt's Talal Ali. The tournament is being held with the participation of more than 70 players from the Sultanate of Oman including expatriates. The tournament is being held in the classic system of seven rounds, with a time control of 60 minutes with an increment of five seconds per move.
The Oman Chess Committee aims through the organisation of the tournament, which is held every month, to activate the activity of clubs in the game of chess and raise the technical levels of players by gaining experience, and work to gain the confidence of the national team's technical staff and prepare to compete for the national team in the upcoming international gatherings.
The sixth and seventh rounds will be held on Saturday to determine the champions of this tournament.
