The Sultanate of Oman left its mark on the ninth edition of Global Modest Fashion Week, hosted in Istanbul from April 25 to 27. The event buzzed with excitement, responsibility, and a fresh perspective, further enhanced by the presence of American fashion model Halima Aden.

Modest fashion refers to clothing that covers the body in a way that is deemed modest according to cultural or religious beliefs. It often involves garments with longer hemlines, higher necklines, and looser fits, prioritizing modesty over revealing or form-fitting designs. Modest fashion can vary greatly depending on cultural norms and individual interpretations, but it generally emphasizes elegance, simplicity, and dignity without sacrificing style or personal expression.

Halima is noted for being the first woman to wear a hijab in the Miss Minnesota USA 2016 pageant, where she was a semi-finalist. Following her participation in the pageant, Halima received national attention and was signed to IMG Models. Her attendance added much-needed attention and recognition for modest fashion and sustainability.

Themed this year, ‘A Unique Fashion Call for Solidarity,’ Istanbul Modest Fashion Week 2024 promises to be an exclusive addition to the global MFW journey and bring together designers, artists, and personalities from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and industries, uniting them for a common cause.

Every aspect of the IMFW 2024 fashion statement holds significance, symbolising its role as a catalyst for change in the industry. More than just a show of vogue, the event marked the global unity of humanity for a noble cause.

Priyah Prakash Pawani, a renowned fashion model and actor from Oman, was represented at the event as the Modest Fashion Brand Ambassador of Oman and a guest speaker, thanks to the backing of Muhammet Hekimoğlu, Ambassador of Turkey to Oman and Turkish Airlines, Turkey's flag carrier.

She eloquently underscored the importance of inclusivity, diversity, and the democratisation of modest clothing and fashion. Turkish Airlines, Turkey's flag carrier, played a pivotal role in facilitating and encouraging Priyah Prakash Pawani's journey to Istanbul, for which she expressed deep gratitude.

In her role as an ambassador, Priyah Prakash Pawani's primary objective this year was to foster connections between artists and their designs, fostering cultural and social ties between Oman and Turkey. Her attire, exquisitely crafted by acclaimed Omani fashion designer, Faiza al Balushi from Chiffon Style, proudly showcased Oman and India in its traditional elegance. As an Indian who represented Oman at the TMFW, she also adorned a Saree, a timeless classic in its Modest form.

With more beauty queens and pageant winners embracing Modest Fashion, this year’s IMFW stood out as one of the best people have seen so far.
