Al Ikram weakens, but rains may continue

Muscat: Low-pressure weather Al Ikram weakened on Friday but there are chances of rainfall of varying intensity in Dhofar, Al Wusta and Al Sharqiyah South governorates over the next two days till Sunday.

The National Center for Emergency Management (NCEM) has suspended its activities but authorities will continue to restore services in the rain-hit areas.

The weather will remain stable in the rest of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, according to the Civil Aviation Authority and the National Early Warning Center for Multiple Hazards.

The Wilayat of Taqah witnessed rainfall that ranged between heavy and moderate. Heavy rains lashed many villages in the wilayat such as Madinat Al Haq, Jabjat, Jilob and Khabarart.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology reopened the roads affected by the tropical situation in the Dhofar Governorate.

Omar bin Ahmed Mufleh, Director of the Road Maintenance Department, said: 'The directorate’s technical work teams are currently working on damaged roads in Al Mazyouna, Rakhyout and Thamrait. Fallen rocks were cleared from some of these roads and road shoulders were damaged. However these did not cause traffic interruptions.'

In Dhofar Governorate, the Royal Oman Police has arrested individuals who defied safety warnings by attempting to cross perilous Wadis. Despite repeated cautions, this group chose to disregard the advisories, prompting their arrest by law enforcement with legal procedures completed against them.
