Muscat: The Food Safety and Quality Centre (FQSC) has made a statement regarding the use of chemicals in grape products in one of the countries.

The statement said that the Center, in cooperation with the agricultural quarantine departments at all border crossings, is working to ensure that all incoming products conform to standard food specifications, and samples are taken for analysis to the laboratory to ensure that products are free of pesticide residues and other pollutants.

Accredited laboratories also inspect products before export as the center emphasizes its keenness to ensure the safety of all agricultural food products before being allowed to be traded in local markets.

It may be noted that social videos have been showing grapes are heavily contaminated with pesticides and require specific washing methods to eliminate the chemical residues.

Videos suggest that grapes are laden with pesticides, and while adults can consume them after thorough cleaning, children should be kept away from them.
