DUBAI: Oman athletes bagged five medals in the final day of athletic competitions while the chess team snatched three medals on the second day of chess competitions at the GCC Youth Game in the UAE.

On Saturday, Kaltham al Jabri won a silver medal in shot put while Moaayad Al Badri snatched bronze in 400m race. Aza al Henaei claimed the bronze medal in the 200 meter race. In relay, Oman men and women snatched the bronze medal.



At Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, national chess players won three medals. The Oman women won silver medal and bronze medals while men finished with bronze medal.

The sailing competitions concluded on Saturday after five days of thrilling competitions in Aptimus, IlKA4 and IlKA6 classes. The sailing games were held at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.



Omani sailors delivered an outstanding show despite difficult weather and unstable winds. In the IlKA4 competition, Omani sailors finished first in the opening race. In the ILKA competition, Omani sailor Elias took first place in the opening race and the national sailing team won gold medal on the first day of the team competitions.

Oman volleyball team suffered a defeat in their opening match against the UAE at Al Nassir Club hall in Dubai.



Omani youth tried to balance the match but the UAE team dominated the match. The Kuwaiti Volleyball team also lost its first matches to the Bahrain team in three sets. Oman's team will take on Kuwait in the following match on Sunday morning while Saudi Arabia will meet UAE.
