Heavy rains: Rescue operations continue

 
Police aviation carried out a rescue operation to rescue two people after a vehicle carrying a group of students drifted in a valley stream in the Samad Al-Shaan district, on Sunday. The other missing persons were being searched for and transferred to Ibra Reference Hospital.

The army and police are on the search for missing individuals.

In Rimal Sharqiya, the rescue teams of the Civil Defense and Ambulance Department in ⁧‫‬⁩ Governorate dealt with a report of the detention of a vehicle with five people in it in a valley stream in ⁧‫Ibra‬⁩, were rescued and are reportedly in good health.

The system from the northeastern direction towards the airspace of northern Oman has been bringing torrential rains that have caused flash floods.

Rawdha School building in al Mudhaibi has been inundated with rainwater with Wadi Samad Al-Shan flowing at dangerous levels. Several people have been stranded inside the school, while vehicles in the parking lot drifted away.

As several governorates witnessed torrential rains on Sunday morning, there were few instances of school buses with students getting stranded due to flash floods. The Civil Defense & Ambulance Authority have been able to rescue everyone, but are still looking for missing individuals from other incidents.

Rescue teams from the Civil Defense and Ambulance Department in ⁧‫Dakhiliyah ‬⁩ Governorate were able to rescue a person after his vehicle was impounded in a valley in Izki and the officials said he is in good health.

The authority has called on everyone to take the utmost caution and caution, not to risk crossing valleys, and to stay away from low places.

Classes in private higher education institutions and vocational colleges supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation (MOHERI), will be shifted online on Monday.

Students can choose whether to continue online in the forthcoming days.

Meanwhile, the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center has issued the weather forecast for this week into Wednesday., April 17, 2024.

The latest forecasts and analyses indicate that the weather in the Sultanate of Oman will be affected by a low-pressure system until Wednesday with continued chances of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall ranging between 30-120 mm accompanied by hail, which could lead to flooding in the governorates of North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, Muscat, North Al Batinah, Al Buraim, Musandam and Al Wusta. There are also chances of varying intensity rainfall in governorates of Dhofar.

Strong downdraft wind is expected to have speed ranging between 28 to 83 km/hr. Wave height in Musandam and across Oman Sea coasts are expected to reach 2 to 3 m.

Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precaution during rain, wadis flow and the reduction of visibility.

This morning Met office had reported that activity and flow of thunderstorm cells of varying intensity over parts of the governorates of Muscat, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dhahirah and Al Dakhiliyah, with continued chances of rainfall of varying intensity that will be thundery at times during the coming hours.

The latest satellite images show that the governorates of South Al Batinah, North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, and parts of Al Wusta will be affected by rainfall of varying intensity, thunderstorms at times, continuing until the coming time.
