'We received thousands of people of different nationalities since morning and they enjoyed a complete family picnic, thanks to the vast area and amenities, besides animals, reptiles and birds,' said Dr Khalfan bin Saeed al Maamari.

'Safari World' features animals of various natures, from African lions and tigers to Omani deers, gazelles, reptiles and birds from different continents of the world.

The entry fee to the zoo has been fixed at RO 5 for adults but children below 12 will only be charged RO 3 while kids below 4 can enter free. The zoo is open from 8 am to 10 pm every day.

'We have plans for a water theme park and a complete family entertainment avenue, animal feeding area, family boating facility and the like, part of a complete day offering full of entertainment,' he said.

Dr Al Maamari said that, in order to attract more families and groups, 'Safari World' will also have family packages, group packages and days dedicated to school children.

Visitors to the largest zoo are in for a treat to their eyes with a vast range of animals from tigers and lions to deers and gazelles, birds and other wild animals.
