Mosques resonated with prayers during Lailatul Qadr or the Night of Power for the Palestinian people who are facing the biggest battle in their homeland.
Ever since the holy month entered into the most important and the last phase of the final ten days, believers have been engaging themselves into more supplications with other deeds such as Zakat and Sadaqa (two forms of supporting fellow beings) and staying at mosques overnight for Lailatul Qadr.
Lailatul Qadr also known as the 'night of power' or 'the promised night' and as 'the night of greatest rewards' is the night when the Holy Quran was revealed to mankind. People began to stay inside the mosques as part of Itikaf, which means spending the night in prayers.
“In this last Friday of the blessed month of Ramadhan, I ask the Almighty, the Lord of the Noble Throne, to accept your fasting and prayers, and to elevate your status in this world and the Hereafter, making you among those accepted and forgiven. I pray that Allah blesses you with health, happiness, and blessings in all the days of your life, and forgives you and your parents,” people prayed.
They prayed to Allah to bring peace and justice to Palestine, to alleviate the suffering of its people, and to grant them strength and patience in facing the challenges until they see the total independence and freedom of Palestine.
It is said in the Holy Quran that there is a night in the odd nights of the holy month which is more powerful than 1,000 nights.
These nights keep believers in the Sultanate of Oman along with their brethren across the world come closer to Allah engaging themselves in special prayers and supplications throughout the night till dawn.
While each one prays 'Qiyamul Lail' which denotes long, standing supplications which is a part of the last ten days of the holy month, mass congregations of people are held across almost all mosques by midnight when everyone stands up in unison and turn their faces towards the holy Kaába seeking forgiveness and relief from hellfire.
Hazrat Aisha Radiallah Anha stated that Rasool Allah, peace be upon him, said, 'Look for Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadhan.' (Bukhari)
It is further stated that, 'I asked Rasool Allah peace be upon him, 'If I find Lailatul Qadar then what should I do? To this, Allah's prophet (peace be upon him) said, recite this Dua.'ALLAH HUMMA INNAKA A’FUVUN TOHIB BUL AFVA FA’AFU ANNI' (Tirmidhi).
Believers will continue to engage in prayers and supplications and 'Qiyamul Lail' prayers that keep them engrossed in the thoughts of Allah.
