Bion Genetic Lab partners with Oman Down Syndrome Assoc for support and education

MUSCAT: Bion Genetic Laboratory, Oman’s first and only genetic laboratory in the private sector in Oman, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Oman Down Syndrome Association of Oman at an event held at the genetic centre recently.
Through this understanding that is aimed at supporting individuals with Down Syndrome through various educational initiatives and subsidised genetic tests, children with Down Syndrome and members of the association will be able to get services at subdised prices and discounts and facilities for various genetic tests that they require from time to time.
Speaking to the Observer, Dr Saad al Junaibi, Founder and Chairman of the Board at Bion Genetic Laboratory, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, 'We are honoured to partner with the Down Syndrome Association of Oman to provide essential support and resources to individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.” He further said that through this agreement, they aimed at enhancing the quality of life for these individuals and contribute to their well-being.
'This collaboration with Bion Genetic Laboratory will significantly benefit our members and children with Down Syndrome. Access to subsidized genetic tests and educational efforts will empower families and improve the overall well-being of individuals with Down Syndrome,' Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Jabry, Chairman of Oman Down Syndrome Association said.
According to Dr Saimak Saber, Chief Medical Officer and genetic scientist, who emphasised the importance of early detection and intervention, 'Genetic testing plays a crucial role in diagnosing and managing Down Syndrome. By offering these tests at affordable rates, we hope to facilitate early intervention and improve outcomes for individuals with Down Syndrome because early intervention is very crucial in such situations'
Dr Abeer Al Saegh, Senior Consultant and genetic scientist, highlighted the impact of Down Syndrome on individuals and families, stating, 'Down Syndrome is a genetic condition that affects how a person's brain and body develop. It is important to raise awareness about this condition and provide support to those affected.'
The cooperation between Bion Genetic Laboratory and the Down Syndrome Association of Oman underscores a commitment to supporting individuals with Down Syndrome and promoting their inclusion in society.
