Fatima's experience in amateur cinema has been captivating, as her connection with it dates back to her childhood, influenced by her parents' weekly movie outings. Her fascination with cinema grew as it led her to theatres, where she enjoyed Indian and cowboy films, where she immersed herself in the moments, often moved to tears by the unfolding events, whether sad or happy, because of her sensitive feelings as a child.
Passionate about the arts, Fatima shared, 'I studied theatre and music at the Music and Theater Institute and joined the cinema club in Casablanca. This club played a significant role in solidifying my relationship with cinema.'
Her life became intertwined with both theatre and cinema, engaging in work, viewing, and discussing films. She ventured into studying film history and direction, achieving notable success in film analysis and providing a strong impetus toward realizing her cherished dream. She remarked, 'My journey into the world of cinema began with my love for details and auditory and visual innovations. My first participation was in the 'Amateur Cinema Festival, transitioning from being a viewer to an active film producer. In this context, my experience evolved thanks to advice and guidance from professionals and fellow participants who encouraged me to deepen my knowledge and enhance my skills in the world of cinema.'
Fatima's passion continuously drove her to produce advanced cinematic works. Regarding her artistic choices, she stated, 'Most of my film ideas were embodied in collaboration with my husband, who wrote the screenplay. This partnership posed many challenges, especially in terms of communicating ideas and expressing diverse visions. He is a story writer, and I am in charge of producing.'
Addressing challenges, she said, 'I faced significant challenges dealing with limited resources, both in terms of technological advancements and financial resources. Technical challenges, such as directing in outdoor locations with the involvement of animals and children, were part of my journey. Despite the difficulties, I enjoyed the challenges, which catalyzed innovation and enriched my experience.'
Regarding the importance of story versus artistic aspects, Fatima emphasized, 'I believe that the story and technical aspects must integrate into cinematic work to achieve a unique and impactful experience. The story forms the soul and heart, while technical aspects contribute to better detailing and expression of the planned idea.'
Concerning actors, who often were non-professionals, she said, 'My experience in theatre helped me effectively manage the actors since artistic direction is a significant part of my work.'
Reflecting on challenges in amateur cinema, she stated, 'I consider the challenges not as obstacles but as opportunities to develop my experience and create more impactful and high-quality works.'
In terms of recognition and awards, Fatima revealed her dedication to putting all her energy into producing quality artistic works. While acknowledging the importance of awards as a significant form of appreciation, she emphasized that they are not the ultimate goal, considering the diverse perspectives of evaluation committees. She enjoys the art experience professionally.
Addressing negative criticism, Fatima said, 'I accepted it with an open heart and learned from my mistakes.' She stressed the importance of constructive criticism, considering it essential for personal and artistic development.
She highlighted the importance of culture and continuity in developing the skills of amateur cinema enthusiasts, emphasizing that film narratives should not be direct but should stimulate thinking and leave room for viewers to draw their conclusions.
