Air trough likely to bring heavy downpours from Friday

Muscat: The National Early Warning Center has issued an alert regarding the continued effect of a trough of a low-pressure system over the Sultanate of Oman from Friday, March 8, to Sunday, March 10. The forecast indicates the likelihood of heavy rains in most governorates, accompanied by active downdraft winds and hail, which may result in flowing wadis. Additionally, sea waves are expected to range from moderate to rough along most coasts.
Friday, March 8:
Rainfall of varying intensity is expected in the governorates of Musandam, al Buraimi, North al Batinah, Muscat, South al Batinah, al Dhahirah, al Dakhiliyah, North al Sharqiyah, and South al Sharqiyah (15-40 mm).
Thundershowers may cause flash floods and wadis to overflow.
Fresh downdrafts with speeds of 15 to 35 knots.
Saturday, March 9:
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, North al Batinah, South al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, North al Sharqiyah, and South al Sharqiyah (30-150 mm).
Thundershowers may cause extreme flow of wadis and flash floods.
Isolated rain expected in Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates (15-25 mm).
Fresh downdrafts with speeds of 15 to 45 knots.
Rough sea (2-3.0 m) along the coasts of the Sultanate of Oman.
Sunday, March 10:
Varied intensity rainfall expected over the governorates of Al Buraimi, North al Batinah, South al Batinah, Muscat, al Dhahirah, al Dakhyliah, North al Sharqiya, and South Al Sharqiya (30-50 mm).
Thundershowers may cause wadis and flash floods.
Isolated rain expected in Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates (10-15 mm).
Fresh downdrafts with speeds of 15 to 25 knots.
