MUSCAT: Oman’s newly appointed head coach, Jaroslav Silhavy, will begin his first task officially when he will lead the team’s first domestic training camp in Muscat on Wednesday. The camp will be part of the team’s preparation for the joint qualifiers for World Cup 2026 and Asian Cup 2027.
The camp will be the Red Warriors' first gathering after it crashed out from the 2023 AFC Asian Cup Qatar in the group stage. Oman began their campaign in the Asian Cup with a 2-1 defeat against Saudi Arabia followed by a goalless draw against Thailand. In the concluding must win match, Oman drew 1-1 draw against Kyrgyzstan to crash out from the Asian event.
Oman is gearing up for the third match in the Asian joint qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup and Fifa World Cup in group D which featured Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan and Chinese Taipei. Oman under watchful eyes of the coach Silhavy will take on Malaysia in Muscat on March 21 and then play away in Kuala Lumpur on March 26.
The match in Muscat will be held in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and the game will start at 10:00 pm (Oman time) while the following encounter will be in national stadium Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur city and the match will begin at 6:00 pm (Oman time). Oman began their campaign with a 2-0 win against Chinese Taipei but then shocked with a 1-0 defeat against Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek in their second match.
It is expected the Czech coach will announce the squad of the national senior team very soon after he observed many players in the previous rounds of the Omantel League and attended some matches in the HM Cup. Coach Silhavy signed a two-year contract with the Oman Football Association (OFA) in February to replace the Croatian coach Branko Ivankovic whose contract was not renewed after the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar. The recently appointed 62-year-old coach served as manager of the Czech national team from 2018-2023.
The new head coach will look for new accomplishments with the national football team as Red Warriors fans are looking ahead to see a strong football team competing in different regional and international events.
