DEZ empowers SMEs with strategic initiatives

The Entrepreneurs Meeting at its 10th meeting in Duqm Economic Zone (DEZ), Al Wusta Governorate, discussed opportunities available in the governorate and the challenges facing owners of small and medium enterprises.
The Authority reviewed its strategic directions, goals, and the existing services and initiatives to support and empower SMEs. These include financing programmes, business incubators, and regulations regulating the practice of home production businesses to the owners of SMEs in various sectors.
Halima al Zaree, Chairperson of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, said: “We consider meetings with the entrepreneurs to be a collaborative platform to reach solutions to challenges, explore promising opportunities, and work as a team with our partners in the entrepreneurship ecosystem.”
The total number of small and medium enterprises in the governorate reached 1,814 enterprises, of which 348 enterprises hold entrepreneurship cards.
The Pioneers Meeting in Al Wusta concluded with a review of the brainstorming results of participants, including effective solutions and initiatives to address the challenges facing entrepreneurs and owners of SMEs in the governorate in various sectors.
The meeting was also accompanied by the visit of Halima to Duqm Refinery Company and the petrochemical industries in DEZ to enhance the partnership and integration approach to support small and medium enterprises. The refinery’s efforts to enhance local benefits were also reviewed. During the construction period, the Duqm Refinery and Petrochemical Industries allocated $398 million to small and medium enterprises, including $36 million to enterprises in the governorate.
They also visited Marafiq Company, and ensured the growth of Al Duqm as a commercial centre by following best industrial practices and maintaining high-quality standards in all operations.
