Book Fair: A retreat for intellectuals
In order to enjoy the book fair to the fullest, one has to keep up with the calendar of Events.

The 28th edition of Muscat International Book Fair has brought in the quest for knowledge all over again.
The annual event sees major participation from organizations and this year the corner of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences makes their presence felt at the Muscat International Book Fair by inviting everyone to their corner that also has dedicated space for sit and read.
Finding the books has never been this easy as now one can search for the titles just by visiting the website - www.mctbookfair.gov.on.
On Friday, the book fair, held at Oman Convention and Exhibition Center till March 2, opened its doors to book enthusiasts who have been waiting for the weekend to be with the books.
This year the Book Fair is lined up with events such as the workshop titled ‘From Idea to Text’, which was held at Ibn Duraid Hall, Readers’ Lounge presented the talk by Abdullah bin Mohammed al Lawati and Sarah bint Fadil al Marikhiya.
Each day is dedicated to a series of sessions as Friday saw topics such as ‘Travel Literature’ which saw the participation of Hassan al Bahar and Khalfan al Zaidi. The session by the Omani Society of Writers was held at the pavilion of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. The Ministry pavilion also had a discussion on the character in the novel, ‘The Earth Weeps, Saturn Laughs,’ by Malik bin Mohammed al Balushi and moderated by Dr Fawziya al Fahdiya. Dr Raya al Mundiriya talked about citizenship and cultural identity.
At Ahmed bin Majid Hall a lecture was organised by Sultan Qaboos University on signatures of calligraphers and engravers on their calligraphy works in the Mecca region presented by Dr Ahmed Omar al Zailan.
Youth is also very much in focus as the Cultural Committee in cooperation with the Directorate General of Youth conducted a session on Youth and Student Activities in Higher Education Institutions - Opportunities and Challenges.
A topic that was received with great interest was the lecture titled, ‘The Palestinian issue from a religious perspective,’ delivered by Dr Kahlan al Kharousi.
Al Dhahirah Governorate, Guest of Honour of this year’s edition of Book Fair had a lecture held at Al Farahidi Hall with the title, ‘Treasures from al Dhahirah Governorate at the National Museum.
Another important topic that was in discussion at the Book Fair was, ‘Digital Marketing and its impact on the Publishing Industry.’
The Ishraq Foundation for Press and Publishing had organised a session on Cultural Transformation - the impact of Artificial Intelligence on Culture and Creativity on Thursday
The poetry night saw the participation of poets Amna Mahmoud, Gharam al Rubaie, Munther Abdelmagid-Harr, Hazel Ibrahim and Fawzi Akram.
The Cultural Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Information had a dialogue session on ‘The Year Book: Oman’s Vision and Future.’
Dar Al Falaq conducted a session on Omani Foreign Policy in the arena of regional and international events. The Business Development and Quality Foundation held a session on Governance on Development and Practices.
Dr Hamed al Saeedi presented a lecture on Artificial Intelligence. The Ministry of Health organised a lecture on Organ Donation presented by Dr Ahmed al Busaidi. Dr Khalid al Kharousi presented the dialogue session on ports of Oman.
