Oman Journalists’ Association elects BoD for 2024-25

The Oman Journalists Association (OJA), the official body of journalists working in the Sultanate of Oman, held the elections for the Board of Directors on Wednesday.

The wining panel, named Al Taawun, is led by Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak al Araimi, Chairman, and comprising Salim bin Hamad al Jahwari; Talib bin Saif al Dhabari; Khalfan bin Said al Hasani, Mustafa bin Khamis al Maamari, Yousef bin Abdulkarim al Houti, Hamed bin Hamad al Qasmi, Abdullah bin Said al Jahwari; Said bin Nasser al Nahdi, Rashid bin Humaid al Rashidi, Zainab bint Khamis al Zadjaliyah and Ahmed bin Thabit al Mahrouqi made it to the board for the third time.

As many as 378 voters cast their ballots to elect one of the three factions that contested to the Board of Directors of the Oman Journalists Association (OJA). Nominations were invited from incumbent members of the OJA on January 1 and can be submitted until January 20. Any nomination submitted after the indicated date will not be considered.

Two panels, besides the present BoD, comprising 12 members each vied to the BoD to be chosen to be their representatives to the coveted positions of the apex body of journalists to represent Oman media for the year 2024 – 2026.

Hatim al Tai, Saif al Mahrouqi, Abdullah al Shueili, Zainab al Zadjali, Nabil al Hadi, Madrin al Maktoumi, Saleh al Balushi, Noah al Maamari, Khalifa al Rawahi, Hamad al Habsi, and Ahmed al Farsi made the second panel.



The OJA, with its 10 sub-committees namely, Sports Media, Freedoms and International Relations, Photographers, Membership and Member Affairs, Marketing and Investment, Women Journalists Affairs, Public Relations and Events, Media and Culture, Training and Qualification and Governorate Committee, holds membership in three international committees.

The three important international committees in which OJA has membership are, International Journalists Association (represented by Mubarak al Araimi), Asian Journalists Association (represented by Salim al Jahwari), and International Gender federation in International Journalists Association (represented by Zainab al Zadjali) Prior to the elections, the existing committee presented a report on the performance of the Board, a draft work plan for the year, the balance sheet and final account for the ending fiscal year and the project, new year budget, auditor's report and appointed the auditor in accordance with the Bylaw of the Committee for the current year.
