The Anti-Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Competition Project Team held a meeting on Wednesday headed by Abdul Hamid bin Abdul Rahman al Kharousi, Deputy Governor of Muttrah, to discuss the establishment of a rehabilitation centre for those recovering from drug addiction in Muttrah.
The meeting aimed at discussing the progress of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Competition project in the presence of a number of members of the National Committee, and reviewed the achievements of the team responsible for the competition, a brief overview of the stages that were implemented, and aspects related to its organisation.
They also discussed allocating a site in Muttrah to establish a rehabilitation centre project for those recovering from addiction.
Such a competition comes to achieve a great goal and instilling a culture of awareness in society and young people of the dangers and harms of drug abuse or trafficking, as the problem of drugs and psychotropic substances occupies the attention of societies all over the world.
The Sultanate of Oman has paid great attention by defining the national strategy to combat narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for the year 2023-2028. It has developed the policies, programmes and organisational activities that should be worked on in the next phase to confront the challenges of combating narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
This is in addition to enhancing the capabilities of young people to confront the scourge, developing and strengthening human capabilities in prevention and awareness for a safe society free of drugs, and developing specialised programmes aimed at treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration.
The meeting also looked at the progress of the activities organised during the previous period and the results achieved. Such activities are considered an important part of the efforts made to combat drugs and psychotropic substances in Muttrah.
The competition reflects the keenness of Muscat Governorate and the concerned authorities to increase national efforts to combat drugs and psychotropic substances as well as rehabilitating those recovering from addiction, integrating them with different groups of society, and providing the necessary support to individuals affected.
