More than 1,000 Athletes to vie in 2024 Ironman 70.3 Triathlon in Oman

The Ironman 70.3 Triathlon competition will start on Friday at Qurum Beach in Muscat Governorate, and will conclude on Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and organized by the Modern Triathlon Company. As many as 1000 participants from different countries around the world will take part in this Triathlon event.

Haitham Al Ghassani, Director General of Tourism and Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said that the ministry is committed to supporting sports activities and events that contribute to promoting tourism activity in the Sultanate of Oman and achieving economic returns that include various sectors related to the sports and tourism sector.

Al Ghassani added that hosting the Ironman Championship plays an important role in attracting a large number of participants from all over the world, which contributes to introducing visitors to the tourist attractions in the Sultanate.

He pointed out that this championship enhances the revenues of airlines, transportation, hotels, and restaurants, and contributes to stimulating the local economy.

He stressed that the Omani Triathlon Committee, the organizer of the championship, is working with the ministry to achieve the desired goals from this hosting, and expressed his hope to support more sports championships in the future.

Ahmed al Obaidani, the race director of the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Championship, said: 'The success of hosting previous editions of the Ironman Championship in partnership with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism motivates us to deliver the best in this edition of the championship. The efforts of the organizing teams are united to present the championship in its most artistic and administrative form. Our vision of hosting the championship has been realized thanks to the tremendous work of a group of ambitious Omani youth in the sports field.'

'In 2018, we aspired to have the best race in the Ironman Championship worldwide, but the Omani 70.3 race was crowned as one of the best races in the Middle East, Europe, and South Africa out of 178 races. The achievement of the Omani race in securing a third place is a new milestone added to the achievements of Omani sports. Oman is considered the first Arab country to achieve this position in the Ironman Championship.' the race director added

'The Omani youth's involvement is not limited to organizing, but they also participate in the championship competitions to achieve advanced positions and compete at a high level. The number of participants in this edition of the championship exceeded one thousand, indicating that Oman has reached a strong presence in the global market of the Ironman Championship.'

AbdulAziz Al Obaidani, the tournament's operations manager, said that they were able to achieve an advanced position in the swimming competition at the Middle East level, thanks to the efforts of the work teams and the support provided by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

He explained that the swimming path in this edition will be in the open water of Qurum Beach, while the cycling path will pass through several areas including the Royal Opera House, Muttrah Corniche, Muscat Gate, Seeb Street, Al Bustan Slope, and Al Amerat Street, which allows the participants to experience a different experience of the geographical nature, passing through mountains, seas, plains, and water bodies.

The 21-kilometer running race will pass from Qurum Natural Park to Qurum Beach, providing an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful natural landmarks in Muscat Governorate.
