MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman marks World Cancer Day which falls on February 4 each year.

On this occasion, the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre, said that it is moving ahead with the provision of quality medical services to cancer patients through its six treatment programs.

In less than three years, the Centre managed to assume a leading place among specialist centres in the region and the whole world obtaining international accreditation in recognition of the quality health services it provides and the application of the best international practices in clinical service and patient safety and the competence of medical and administrative staff.

The Center received 1,145 cases of breast cancer within a year, which is the most common type of cancer among women in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Breast Cancer Programme offers genetic counseling and testing to all newly diagnosed breast cancer patients.

The Centre plans to advance its scientific achievements relying on highly experienced staff, modern technological capabilities. The Centre’s vision goes beyond treating the patients to improving their quality of life as well as educating them and raising their awareness of cancer and providing psychological, rehabilitative and counseling services to them. — ONA
