Muscat: The much anticipated film, 'Three', by Nayla al Khaja, film director from UAE, is all set to hit the screen on February 1 in Oman and other GCC and Middle East countries. Egypt began screening on January 31.
Based on a true story, 'Three' interestingly is a film that is 50-60 per cent in English and 40-50 per cent in Arabic.
The synopsis of Nayla’s debut feature film is that ‘a boy becomes sick by his inner voices, leading his mother to seek help from an unlikely man, who must put his Western thinking aside to save her son through an intense unconventional ritual.’ The genre of the film has been classified as ’Horror’. The film features actors Jefferson Hall, Falen Ahmed, Noura Alabed and Said al Zarooni.
The psychological thriller has layers of themes such as mental health, coming of age, West meets East and superstitions. The movie has been shot in Thailand and UAE.
'Three' unfolds in the bustling suburbs of a modern-day Middle Eastern city, where a young boy named Ahmed begins exhibiting strange behaviour, eventually leading his mother, Maryam, to believe he is possessed. As the plot intensifies; Maryam races against time, seeking the help of a Western doctor, medical professionals, and ultimately an infamous exorcist, all to save her son.
The independent feature was shot in both Bangkok and the UAE over a period of 24 days. Producers of the film are Nayla al Khaja, Daniel Zirilli, Jean-Charles Levy and Sultan al Darmaki. Serving as Executive Producers are Muna Easa Al Gurg, Jefferson Hall, Siddharth Thakker, Rasik Thakker and Sultan al Darmaki.
Nayla said, “I am honoured to have Emirates Airline supporting my debut feature film. This extraordinary step not only serves as a resounding endorsement of my artistic endeavour but demonstrates Emirates’ unwavering commitment to supporting Emirati talent and amplifying the voices of female storytellers,' she said.
