MoTCIT announces immediate execution of projects directed by HM

 
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, on Monday confirmed the immediate implementation of the projects that fall within the scope of its purview, the implementation of which was directed by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik during his visit to Musandam Governorate.

Engineer Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said in a statement: “The projects that His Majesty - directed to be implemented in the governorate have a social and economic impact on the people of the governorate. I am proud that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is part of this national movement in developing Musandam Governorate through a number of development and service projects.”



The minister valued the Royal attention accorded by His Majesty to the projects related to the sectors of transport, communications and information technology most notably the Port of Khasab. This 159-hectares port receives a great attention by His Majesty due to its strategic location adjoining the Strait of Hormuz and its role in spurring the trade movement and the logistic sector as well as the other sectors related to navigation. He added: “ Last year, the port witnessed increased operations by receiving more than 2,000 ships while passenger traffic through the port increased to 52,000 passengers up from the figure of 3,000 seen in 2022. Besides, the port received 48 cruise ships compared to just 5 a year earlier.”

The minister stressed that His Majesty is interested in linking Musandam Governorate to the rest of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman and facilitating the movement of citizens. He noted that His Majesty praised the steps taken in the Dibba-Lima-Khasab road project and other strategic and vital projects that would have a significant impact in terms of developing the socioeconomic and tourism sectors. This is in addition to the project’s great importance in developing the transportation and logistics system and the associated infrastructure.
