Adventure tourism in Oman is becoming widely popular among travel enthusiasts. Mountain climbing, trekking, snorkeling, diving or a camel safari offer unique experiences.
To encourage this type of tourism, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with a number of relevant authorities from the public and private sectors, organized the first edition of the “Oman Tourism Forum” for the first time in 2022 which is dedicated to adventure tourism. The forum aimed to highlight the natural beauty Oman is known for.
Oman is one of the best places for mountain climbing in the Middle East with over 25 different spots most astonishing of which are Jabal Shams, Jabal Misht, Al Jabal Al Akhdhar and Jabal Kawr. The best time for climbing starts from mid-November to mid-March when the weather is cool with low humidity and little rain.
Oman has a unique geographical diversity in nature, between plains, mountains, beaches and sand. Hikers can enjoy their sport in different places including deep valleys, canyons, waterfalls, caves, deserts, beaches, terrace farms, and many others. Those wonderful spots earned Oman its international fame among those who enjoy the pristine nature. Among the famous mountain trails are Jabal Shams trail, the Wadi Halfin trail, Wadi Tanuf, Sab Bani Khamis, Al Nakhar, and the Sa’al Steps in Jabal Khoneh.
Diving in Oman is something that must not be missed by adventurers. They will have the chance to see numerous whales, dolphins, turtles, sting rays, sharks and turtles in Oman’s crystal-clear waters especially in Al Daymaniyat Islands, Bander Khayran and Lima Rock.
Oman is also known for horse and camel riding, cycling, canoeing as well as skydiving. It can be said that adventure tourism is a type of tourism that supports and supplies other aspects of tourism like cultural and ecotourism. It has begun to flourish in recent years among young people and adventure lovers. However, it requires special skills and physical abilities.
