‘Zeyarah’, ‘Sharoot’ win human riders' races in Barka

BARKA: ‘Al Hanouf’ owned by Hijn Al Bashayer, snatched the main race of ‘Lagaya’ category, while ‘Zeyarah’ and ‘Sharoot’ owned by Amer al Zarei grabbed both races with human riders, on the second day of the general camel race in Barka on Wednesday.
The general race competitions will continue till January 4 at Al Fulaij Race field in Barka, supported by the Royal Court Affairs represented by Royal Camel Corps (RCC) and organised by Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF). As many as 75 races are being held over three days and a number of camels will qualify to the final race (HM Cup), which will be held in March to conclude camel racing season 2023-24.
The second day's competition witnessed 16 races for ‘Lagaya’ category, three years old over a distance of 5 km, in addition to two races for human riders for 2 km. The top two winners will qualify to the HM Cup Festival from the first 7 races. Also, RCC will purchase a camel with the best record from this category.
The first race was won by ‘Al Hanouf’, owned by Hijn Al Bashayer under the trainer Hamid al Jahafi. While ‘Dhabiya’, owned by Ali al Amri snatched the second race. 'Shawaheen’, owned by Abdullah al Ghufaili, came first in third race. ‘Ghara’ finished first in the fourth race, owned by Hamoud al Ghufaili. The fifth race was won by ‘Nouf’, owned by Amer al Amri. ‘Haflah’ grabbed the sixth race, owned by Mohammed al Wahaibi. ‘Al Shamikha’ claimed the seventh race, owned by Hamid al Jahafi. The eighth race was won by Hamid al Jahafi through 'Al Lehafi'.
In the ninth race ‘Ghanayem’ came first, owned by Abdullah al Wahaibi. ‘Lafia’ snatched the 10th race, owned by Said al Maliki. ‘Al Gayoor’ won the 11th race, owned by Jassim al Maharbi. ‘Al Fateen’ was the champion of the 12th race,owned by Ahmed al Jahafi. ‘Al Shamekh’ won the 13th race, owned by Said al Lahifi. ‘Najd’ was the hero in the 14th race, owned by Said al Hajri. ‘Monhe’ claimed the 15th race, owned by Salem al Hajri and ‘Mubha’, owned by Othman al Darai, won the concluding 16th race of the category.
In the human rider's race for 2 km, both races were claimed by 'Zeyarah’ and 'Sharoot', owned by Amer al Zarei.
The concluding day will witness 7 rounds for ‘Al Ythaa’ category, four years old for 6 km. The top two winners will qualify to the HM Cup Festival from the first 4 races. The RCC will purchase a camel with the best record from this category. The competition will continue with three races for ‘Al Thanaya’ category, five years old over a distance of 8 km, the best 13 camels from top two races will qualify for HM Cup race. The race will conclude with the ‘Al Hawl’ category, above six years for 8 km. The best 21 camels from the top three races will qualify for the HM Cups race.
