MUSCAT: Ahli Sidab Club defeated Oman Club with a score of 58-49 at the sub-court of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher, as part of the second round of the Oman Basketball League for the 2023-24 season.

The match was characterised by varying levels, with both teams sharing control and some relative parity that allowed Oman Club to equalise. However, Ahli Sidab managed the game well and succeeded in securing the victory despite losing in the fourth quarter, where the point difference in the third quarter had the most significant impact on Ahli Sidab's win.

Ahli Sidab took control of the game with players such as Wael Gellaty, Hameer al Hasani, and Khaled al Hashmi leading the charge. The match began with Ahli Sidab taking the lead, with Wael Gellaty and Khaled al Hashmi shots, advancing the team to 11-4. Later, Oman Club's Bassam al Musalmi scored a three-pointer, reducing the gap to four points. Ahli Sidab responded with two points from Wael Gellaty. Two mistakes by Mazen al Hadidi and Fahad al Ajmi added four points to Oman Club, bringing the score to 11-13. The first quarter ended with Ahli Sidab leading 18-13.



The second quarter witnessed a return to parity with a slight advantage for Ahli Sidab. Oman Club attempted to close the gap with a shot from Fahad al Ajmi, scoring two points. Ahli Sidab responded with two points from Khamees al Hasani. Oman Club's Mazen al Hadidi then scored two points, narrowing the gap to 17-20. The excitement continued with both teams scoring, and Oman Club managed to equalise at 26-26. The first half ended with Ahli Sidab leading 30-28.

In the third quarter, Ahli Sidab regained its offensive momentum, while its defence thwarted most of Oman Club's attacks. Ahli Sidab expanded the lead with shots from its players Sami al Ghilani and Wael Gellaty, making the score 37-28. Ahli Sidab continued its offensive effectiveness with two points from Khamees al Hasani and a point from a mistake, along with a new three-pointer from his teammate Khaled al Hashmi, widening the gap to 43-30. Both teams continued their attempts with more attacks, and the third quarter ended with Ahli Sidab leading Oman Club 51-34.

The fourth quarter saw a resurgence from Oman Club, which managed to score 15 points. However, Ahli Sidab's strategic plays and resilience scored 7 points and secured a 58-49 victory.

The match was officiated by international referees Essam al Siyabi as the first referee, Ahmed al Khseibi as the second referee, and Wafa al Sumairi as the third referee. Mahmoud al Ajmi, Fatima al Harthy, and Mariam al Zadjali were on the table.
