MUSCAT: The third edition of the Geological Heritage Exhibition, themed 'Sustainability and Job Opportunities', was inaugurated on Tuesday in Al Buraimi Governorate under the auspices of Sayyid Dr Hamad bin Ahmed bin Saud al Busaidy, the Governor of Al Buraimi.
The exhibition is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Petroleum Development Oman, and the Omani Geological Society and it aims to showcase Oman's geological heritage.
It is also meant to underscore its significance, and explore avenues for sustainability while generating economic opportunities and employment prospects for job-seekers.
Celebrating the diverse museum system contributing to heritage and tourism destinations across provinces, this edition specifically highlights the geological potential of the Al Buraimi Governorate. Under the coordination of the Office of the Governor of Al Buraimi, the exhibition is set to run until the end of May 2024.
It encompasses six sections, delving into the narrative of geological heritage, Oman's geological diversity, its historical geological evolution, and the importance of preserving and ensuring the sustainability of geological heritage.
The exhibition also sheds light on employment opportunities in geological tourism and offers insights into the geological composition of the Al Buraimi Governorate.
Featuring distinctive geological heritage pieces from Oman, including fossils dating back approximately 800 million years, the exhibition showcases scientific models of extinct primitive elephants and dinosaurs, emphasising the uniqueness of Oman's geological treasures.
