Heavy rains in Chennai, Oman Air services affected

Muscat: Flight operations at Chennai airport have been affected due to the heavy rains as Cyclone Michaung is expected to cross the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu on Monday. Several flights have been canceled and some of them have been diverted.

The entire runway and airplane parking zone of the Chennai airport are filled with water.
The airfield is closed for arrival and departure operations till 11 pm on Monday, due to severe weather conditions, the Chennai airport confirmed in a statement.
'Due to heavy rain in the area and the closure of Chennai International Airport on 4 December 2023, our operations from/to Chennai are temporarily affected,' the National Airline Oman Air said in a statement.

Heavy rain lashed Chennai through the night on Monday as Cyclone Michaung inched closer near the Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coast.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the city and its neighboring districts would experience extremely heavy rain in the next 24 hours.
