SALALAH: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) announced on Sunday the official launch of the Frankincense Season in Dhofar Governorate. The season is set to commence on December 2 and run until December 9, 2023.
This year's Frankincense Season promises to be an immersive and enriching experience, offering a diverse array of activities and events that will shed light on the profound significance of frankincense in Omani history and civilisation. The season also aims to promote tourism in Dhofar Governorate, showcasing its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality.
Frankincense, also known as 'Luban' in Arabic, has been pivotal in Omani culture for centuries. Revered for its fragrant aroma and therapeutic properties, frankincense has been used in traditional medicine, religious ceremonies, and perfume production.
The Frankincense season will feature a captivating lineup of activities and events. There will be frankincense tree planting in which participants will have the opportunity to plant frankincense trees at the Wadi Dawkah Reserve site, commemorating the inscription of the Land of Frankincense sites on the Unesco World Heritage List.
The season will be an opportunity to embark on a journey of discovery through authentic Bedouin hospitality, experience the thrill of camel riding, and delve into the fascinating world of Bedouin arts and crafts.
There will be a Frankincense Caravans Art Exhibition to showcase the artistry of talented individuals as they showcase their creations in the frankincense caravans, history, and civilisation drawing competition.
The Interactive Children's Corner will engage in a fun and educational adventure at the interactive children's corner, fostering museum education and igniting a passion for archaeology.
There will be enchanting entertainment, lighting shows, performances, and models. one can capture memorable moments at the whimsical photo booth with cartoon characters.
A sand drawing artistry will be on display as talented artists transform grains of sand into mesmerising shapes and designs that embody the rich heritage of Dhofar Governorate.
The Therapeutic Health and Beauty Exhibition will discover the myriad benefits of frankincense derivatives in the therapeutic health and beauty exhibition.
Other activities include Al Baleed Exhibition, exciting tourist experiences, the Treasure Hunt Competition, Discover Samharam, Art Exhibition, and Kayak and Pleasure Boat Excursions.
