Assigned by HM, Sayyid Asaad takes part in virtual G20 summit

MUSCAT: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, HH Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, took part in the virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit which was held on Wednesday under the presidency of Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.
HH Sayyid Asaad delivered a speech in which he conveyed the congratulations of His Majesty on the issuance of the G20 Leaders’ Declaration in New Delhi. He added that the final statement reflected the Group’s interests in enhancing financial stability, making globalisation work for everyone, prioritising the environment, realising sustainable development goals, reforming banks, improving digitalisation and employment, and reinforcing the voice of the developing G20 countries within the international decision-making.
Referring to the African Union’s joining the G20 as a permanent one, HH Sayyid Asaad stated that this addition will strengthen the voice of developing countries and the Global South, reiterating the Sultanate of Oman’s readiness to cooperate with the G20 countries bilaterally and collectively on various topics agreed upon by the New Delhi Declaration.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, HH Sayyid Asaad stressed that the Sultanate of Oman supports the just Palestinian cause and stands with the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination on their land in accordance with the two-state solution.
The discussions of the G20 leaders touched on several main topics pertaining to multilateral development banks, climate action, green credit, technological transformation, digital infrastructure, women empowerment on the development path and implementing the New Delhi G20 Leaders Declaration.
The virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit was attended by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, Khalifa bin Hamad al Badi, Secretary-General of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, Saif bin Ahmed al Sawafi, Adviser at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, and Khalid bin Hashil al Muselhi, Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs. — ONA
