NEP on track to generate more jobs and train citizens

The National Employment Programme NEP involves developing employment policies and training citizens to compete in job market.

The National Employment Programme emanates from the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which seek to find sustainable solutions to tackle unemployment and achieve sustainable development.

It also develops training for citizens in technological skills in line with the requirements of the various sectors of the labour market and their academic qualifications.

These initiatives were launched in cooperation with various partners with the aim of improving the competencies of job seekers, support vocational and technical education, provide career guidance service, develop legislation to enhance the role of investment and the business environment, and boost local value addition.

The programme seeks to stimulate and enable self-employment, link education to the needs of the labour market, direct Omanisation policies towards quality jobs and employment opportunities with high economic and social returns, and analyse the sectors’ value chains by creating job opportunities in sustainable projects.

The programme seeks to create jobs in various governmental, military and private sectors. It launched an online platform for professional career guidance on higher education and employment opportunities.

This comes in line with the strategies of the Oman Vision 2040 in the education, scientific research, innovation, labour market and employment sectors.

Khuta platform targets students in school and higher education, job seekers, employees, self-employers, entrepreneurs, parents, teachers and academics.

It will not be limited to job opportunities only, but will provide training courses for job seekers, school students and university students to hone their talents.

Khuta platform came as one of the strategic initiatives in the axis of raising the efficiency of the vocational guidance service in the Sultanate of Oman, as it is one of the main components that enhances integration and harmony between the outputs of the educational system and the actual needs of the labour market.

It will have all data for students and job seekers to link them with available jobs at the level of the public or private sector according to the available specialisations and job opportunities.

NEP also aims to augment in-country value in all economic sectors. It will contribute to enhancing the participation of the private sector in the national economy by providing training and employment opportunities for Omanis, initiating training and operational programmes for jobseekers and improving their readiness to compete in the labour market.
