Hardik Pandya who got injured his ankle in the game Bangladesh is set to miss two more games which gives him just one game before that too against Netherlands before the knockout out game in the semifinals. Is that one game enough for him to be match ready before the big semifinal which has been India's biggest hurdle in many World Cups in the past.
Since India have won the games against Bangladesh, New Zealand and England without his contribution with the ball and bat, his absence has gone unnoticed, but India definitely needs Hardik the all-rounder for the big games ready and for that he needs to be fully fit from his injury to bowl his 10 overs and also contribute with the bat.
After Hardik got injured India got in a specialist batsman in Surya Kumar Yadav to strengthen the batting and got in Mohammad Shami to ensure they have someone who can give the captain 10 overs with the ball. All this is looking good because India have been winning and winning well.
Shami has been phenomenal with the ball picking 9 wickets and has been making the ball talk with his seam and swing. Surya Kumar too contributed with the bat scoring a crucial 48 in the game against England where the batting barring Rohit Sharma struggled.
So, whom does India drop when Hardik returns? Do they go back to the same combination of one bowling all-rounder like Ashwin or Shardul and drop Shami? Or do they drop Mohammed Siraj who in this World Cup has looked not at his best and with Shami bowling so well it’s unlikely India will drop him.
So, let’s presume India drops Siraj, will hardik be able to give them 10 overs with the ball in a knockout game. In case Suryakumar is kept in the side India does have the luxury of a specialist batsman and will be batting heavy till number 8. This is a big headache Rohit will deal on what he wants in the knockout.
It's a risk Rohit will take, or will he go with tried and tested method which he used in the first four games. Mind you Pandya has not batted enough in the World Cup so having an extra specialist batsman in Suryakumar makes sense but will be able to give 10 overs to the
captain? That's the big call for Rohit to take. He has two more games to decide till Pandya hopefully returns from injury.
