Muscat: To determine the readiness and efficiency of protection dams in the wake of the tropical situation Tej, His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, inspected the flood protection dams in Salalah and some public facilities, accompanied by the officials of relevant government agencies and the municipal council in the governorate.

Dhofar Municipality confirmed its readiness to deal with the tropical situation and to receive reports regarding municipal services in the wilayats through the communications centre.

It has announced an emergency number, 1771, for the purpose.

Shelter centres are ready to receive citizens and residents in Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates during the tropical situation. Arrangements have been made for citizens and expatriates in various schools.

Dhofar Municipality has also issued general guidelines and instructions as a preventive measure.

Meanwhile on Sunday evening, the direct effects of the cyclone began in Sadah with light rainfall. Rain was also reported in Hadbeen, Hasik, Jawfa and Saub, leading to the formation of some water ponds. The rains were accompanied by active winds at times and high waves.

The Ministry of Education announced that all public and private schools will be closed for an additional day (Tuesday October 24) in Dhofar Governorate and the Wilayat of Al Jazir in Al Wusta Governorate. Thus, schools will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday and reopen on Wednesday October 25.
