As cases of flu increase with the change in weather, medics have advised people to follow precautionary measures. They also suggested flu vaccinations to face the seasonal epidemic.

One should avoid close contact with sick persons, maintain hand hygiene, and wear mask if necessary.

If one gets cold, he or she should cover the nose and mouth when he or she sneezes. Preferably use a tissue or wash hands after sneezing besides avoiding close contact with people.

Dr Ihsan AT, Professor of ENT, said people should consume a healthy diet, get enough sleep, stay physically active, and manage stress. Getting flu vaccination can significantly reduce your risk of contracting the virus, he said

'Remember, practising good hygiene and taking these precautions can help minimise your chances of getting sick with cold and flu viruses,' adds Dr Ihsan.

As a precaution, parents should not send sick children to school as it is a risk for other children as well as others.

'Sick people need to wear masks whenever they go out or come in contact with others in public places. Also, people who are more prone or who have risk factors like asthmatics are advised to take the influenza vaccine,' says Dr Mathew Varghese.

Dr Abood Sawafi of Buraimi University advises disinfecting surfaces, staying hydrated, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and practising respiratory hygiene, including wearing face masks when necessary.

'Avoid iced drinks, wash hands with soap, avoid close contact with people who may be sneezing. Additionally, one can get the annual flu vaccine which is available at both government and private healthcare institutions,' said Dr Horal Jarjani.

'Presently we are getting many such cases of respiratory infections namely pharyngitis, laryngitis, bronchitis and the cause is influenza virus, which is spread through air, ' said Dr Dilip Kumar Singvi.

'Take the influenza vaccine jab before the start of the season which is usually before winter sets in. One should also seek medical specialist help at the earliest if found to have flu,' said Dr Dilip.

Ensuring good hydration and oral intake as viral infections are known to drain out the energy are equally important.

They forecast that the flu for next two months will be higher, in fact it is bit more severe than the previous time.
