Journalism forum begins; in line with deep-rooted belief in role of Omani women

The Omani Journalists Association organised Omani Women's Journalism Forum on Tuesday under the auspices of Her Highness Dr Taghreed bint Turki bin Mahmoud al Said. This forum is in line with the association's deep-rooted belief in the vital role of Omani women across various sectors, with a particular emphasis on the journalism and media domain.

Recognising the importance of providing Omani women with a prominent platform, the association is dedicated to showcasing their role in community service as journalists and media professionals. In pursuit of this objective, a dedicated committee, named ‘Women Journalists' Affairs Committee’ has been established. This committee is responsible for developing specialised training and development programmes to enhance the skills and capabilities of women in journalism and media, enabling them to actively contribute to the nation's continued progress.

In addition to its ongoing efforts, the association is actively participating in Omani Women's Day, celebrated on October 17 every year. The Omani Women's Forum for Journalism is being organised as part of this celebration. This forum aims to shed light on the significant contributions of Omani women to the journalism sector and the broader media landscape. It also seeks to highlight the experiences of women who played pivotal roles in establishing journalism in the Sultanate of Oman, showcasing the country's historical and legacy aspects of journalism.

Furthermore, the forum will delve into how Omani women in the media sector adapt to and keep pace with the evolving communication techniques and content creation methods in journalism. It will also facilitate discussions on various aspects of women's work within this sector.

The opening of the forum will be marked by an accompanying exhibition, followed by speeches from the Omani Journalists Association and Rima Integrated Projects Company. This will include the presentation of a film detailing the history and mission of the Omani Journalists Association, a visual presentation showcasing Omani female journalists and media professionals, and the presentation of inspiring stories from accomplished Omani female journalists and media practitioners.

The forum comprises two main working sessions. The first session, titled 'The Omani Media Personality and Decision-Making,' will feature prominent speakers such as Dr Aisha bint Saeed al Ghabishiyah, Captain Iman bint Ali al Rasbiyah, and Shaikha bint Ahmed al Mahrouqiyah, who will discuss topics including the role of women in security media and leadership empowerment. Journalist Mohammed bin Ali al Alawi will moderate the session.

The second session, titled 'The Future of Journalism in the Shadow of Digital Transformations, Artificial Intelligence, and Algorithms,' will explore topics such as digital transformation in Omani media, the impact of artificial intelligence on women's media, and challenges in the reality media sector. Kholoud bint Saif al-Alawiyah and feature expert insights from Ahlam bint Abdulrub al Balushiyah, Rasha bint Saud al Abdaliyah, and Ibtihal bint Ghazi al Zadjaliyah will moderate the session.

Participating in the media legacy clips are Dr Mona bint Mahfouz al Mundhiriyah, journalist Bayan bint Youssef al Balushiyah, Dr Aisha bint Saeed al Ghabishiyah, and journalist Nada bint Abdullah al Balushiyah. Additionally, success stories will be presented by Dr Mia bint Hudaib al Habsiyah, journalist Jihan bint Abdullah al Lamkiyah, and journalist Zainab bint Abdullah al Zadjaliyah.

The Omani Women's Journalism Forum is a testament to the Omani Journalists Association's commitment to recognising and promoting the invaluable contributions of women in journalism and media. It is an occasion to celebrate their achievements and inspire future generations of female journalists in the Sultanate of Oman.
