Empowering Omani Women: Celebrating 14 Years of Progress in Culture and Literature

Oman is marking the fourteenth anniversary of Omani Women's Day with a series of events organised by the Ministry of Social Development. These events will take place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 15 to 17.

This year's celebration of Omani Women's Day aims to highlight women's significant achievements and efforts in the cultural and literary fields, notably in the fields of poetry, novels, theatre, and manuscripts. The celebration aims to inspire groups and people to start initiatives to help women, launch events and programmes in this vein, and recognise distinguished women in the arts and literature.

On the morning of Sunday (October 15), a poetic session titled 'A Woman from the Nation's Rib' will kick off the celebration. The North Al Sharqiyah Governorate will be the guest of honour this year, presenting an evening event highlighting diverse arts specific to the governorate under the title 'Appreciation for Omani Women.' Furthermore, a complementary exhibition focusing on 'Manuscripts and National Documents' will run for three days, showcasing alongside the festivities.

On Monday (October 16), critical dialogue sessions will be for novels titled 'Stars in the Sky of Omani Literature.' Additionally, the evening will feature a captivating theatrical performance titled 'Nominate Me' presented by the Rustaq Theatre Group.

As part of the celebrations, the Ministry of Social Development will honour 30 exemplary female figures in culture and literature, encompassing poetry, theatre, novels, manuscripts, and national documents. The ceremony will also include an operetta composed of four artistic display panels, drawing inspiration from Omani literary and cultural themes, with participation from esteemed Omani poets. Moreover, the ceremony will mark the launch of several initiatives to bolster support for Omani women and amplify their roles within society.

Omani Women's Day comes as a renewal of the country's commitment and continuous support for women every year. This is manifested in dedicating a special day to celebrate women, honour them, enhance their support, and empower them. This day's purpose is to allow them to compete and excel in various fields, aiming to uplift communities. This reflects women's significant role as a key element in realising a prosperous future.
