Archeological discoveries made in Samayil
Muscat: A team of experts from the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is carrying out salvage archaeological excavations at an archeological site in Faiha village in the Wilayat of Samayil that dates back to the first millennium BC.
The archeological excavations taking place from September 17 to 27, focus on the underground cemeteries that existed at that time. The cemeteries have oval- and rectangular-shaped chambers and stone-covered internal walls.
The excavations resulted in the discovery of pottery vessels such as jars, bowls, flasks, glazed pottery vessels, and utensils that belong to Sindh and the Parthian Empire in Iran. Also unearthed at the archeological site were, of glass bottles, a chloride stone vessel, iron arrowheads, and jewelry (bracelets, earrings, rings and beads).
