MUSCAT: The Oman Childhood Conference and Exhibition, the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, organised by the Children First Association, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, begins today.
Dr Ohood bint Saeed al Balushiyah, Vice-Chairman of the Main Committee of the conference said the conference seeks to discuss children’s issues in Omani society, provide support and advice to improve their quality of life, respect their rights, and focus on contemporary trends in raising gifted children.
The conference will focus on “contemporary trends in raising talented children,” with the participation of an elite group of specialists, academics, and those interested in this matter locally, regionally, and internationally.
The conference aims to highlight the diversity of experiences and make the most of specialists in spreading national and international awareness of caring for the gifted, and the possibilities in the field of investing in developing their abilities. It will also address the exchange of expertise and experiences in discovering gifted children, and strengthening the role of the family, educational institutions and society in caring for them.
Dr Mona bint Fahd al Said, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Children First Association, also mentioned that the association’s vision was built to raise children’s awareness, development, and empowerment in the educational, health, and cultural fields, to meet their needs, develop their capabilities, and enhance their rights to be active individuals in society. She also noted that the association’s mission was a reference and a supportive platform for childhood in Oman.”
The conference works to give children the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. The association also works hard to overcome challenges serving children in Oman, out of its belief in the role of civil society in complementing national efforts.
The accompanying exhibition is the first of its kind as it will include all parties interested in children in one place, represented by government institutions that serve children, companies specialising in children’s products, and training and entertainment centres, in order to enable children and parents to learn about the efforts made under one roof.
The Children’s Association encourages conferences and exhibitions in which specialists participate to serve goals that open new doors to discuss issues from different angles and to spread knowledge and embody the outcomes of the conference and exhibition and practices that enhance and highlight the efforts in the field of childhood.
The exhibition will also include platforms for government institutions to display their services and spread awareness to all segments of society, including school students, families, and those interested in the field of child care.
The three-day conference concludes on September 27.
