US, Iran rapprochement good for region: Sayyid Badr

NEW YORK: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, affirmed that the rapprochement between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran provides a path to regional peace, and that the recent prisoner exchange between the two countries will lead to more dialogue and closer relations in the coming months.

During his participation in the dialogue session at the Middle East Summit organised by the Al-Monitor Media Foundation in New York, the minister called on the United States and Iran to maintain the momentum of confidence and stop escalation to protect the stability of the global economy.

Expressing his support for the existence of a platform through which Iran can hold bilateral talks, Sayyid Badr referring to the Iranian nuclear agreement, described it as “the best we have” in light of concerns about Tehran’s regional foreign policy.

The minister stressed that the key to security and integration in the Middle East is “to recognise that we are all part of this region, including Iran, and therefore we all have a vested interest in the future of the region.”

Meanwhile, Sayyid Badr received Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), at the headquarters of the Permanent Delegation of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, on Saturday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed topics of common interest affirming their support to dialogue between civilisations and cultures and their commitment to the values of tolerance, understanding and respect of rules of international law and the United Nations Charter. They agreed to enhance constructive cooperation and common benefits for the good and harmony among nations. SEE ALSO P2
