Nama responds to concerns about summer electricity bills

Nama Services says it has been closely monitoring the discussions circulating on social media concerning private electricity bills during the summer season.

In response to the concerns raised, Nama has emphasised the importance of maintaining accurate account data. Subscribers are encouraged to make the most of the government's support programme, which now offers each subscriber the allocation of two accounts.

This strategic move is poised to have a positive impact on the overall electricity bills, as it entails special considerations specifically designed for this account category. Leveraging the national electricity support programme presents an opportunity for subscribers to enjoy additional benefits, exceeding 30% when compared to the standard account rates.

Moreover, in line with the National Subsidy System (NSS), the authorities have introduced the latest updates on electricity subsidy rates. These revisions aim to alleviate the financial burden on households, with the subsidy rates being linked to electricity consumption.

Under the new structure, households consuming between 0 and 4,000 units will benefit from a subsidised rate of 10 Baisa per unit, a significant reduction from the standard rate of 15 Baisa per unit. For those consuming between 4,001 and 6,000 units, the subsidised rate is set at 13 Baisa per unit, while the standard rate remains at 20 Baisa per unit. Furthermore, households with electricity consumption exceeding 6,000 units will receive a subsidy of 20 Baisa per unit, down from the standard rate of 30 Baisa per unit.

These adjustments are not only expected to provide financial relief to consumers but also promote responsible energy usage and conservation, it added.
