Breaking away from the monotonous routines of everyday life and shattering societal norms, there was a remarkable gathering of 190 mothers at a mall in the Sultanate of Oman.
The mothers converged under the banner of the Malayali Mothers Middle East (MMME) Oman chapter and reclaimed some precious moments for themselves, creating an exuberant celebration of the festive season of Onam, replete with fervour and merriment.
The festivities showcased traditional cultural performances, including the graceful ‘thiruvathira’ and vibrant ‘oppana’ dances. The event also featured engaging skits, group and solo songs, fusion performances, and various other delightful acts that filled the air with enthusiasm and talent.
'This MMME group, a community of kindred spirits among Muscat's mothers, is independently orchestrated by its members, allowing them to assemble periodically, organise recreational activities, and provide a platform for nurturing future talents,' remarked an MMME spokesperson.
These immensely talented mothers captivated the audience with a mesmerising display of various art forms during a five-hour extravaganza. The dance performances, particularly, were a visual delight, enthralling spectators.
To warmly welcome new members, the event featured exciting games and lucky draws, showering attendees with fantastic prizes. No member left the celebration empty-handed, as all were generously presented with special return gifts. The pinnacle of the gathering was a sumptuous Onam sadya, celebrating the rich culinary heritage of Kerala.
The event's masterminds, Mona Mohiyadheen, Sindhu Soman, and Smitha Nair, worked diligently to ensure its success.
The MMME Oman chapter was conceived with the noble objective of harnessing the latent talents of mothers living far from their homeland, often confined within the walls of their homes. It serves as a beacon of empowerment, allowing these remarkable women to break free from convention and celebrate their unique talents and identities.
