The Ministry of Interior announced that the last date to submit applications and transfer registration in the electoral register for the Majlis Ash'shura elections for the 10th term is September 14.
The election process, including voting, is based primarily on AI and digital. One can request to add or make changes through the 'Entekab' application and the elections website (elections.om) according to the unique national ID and permanent or current address recorded on the personal card.
'Verifying the voting status is important. The ministry had previously notified in a statement to citizens the importance of verifying the status of their registration in the electoral register, through the 'Intekhab' application or the election website,' a source from the Elections Department told the Observer, adding that the rule is based on Article 18 of the Law on Election of Members of Majlis Ash’shura issued by Royal Decree No. 54/ 2023.
Additionally, a voter who has yet to cast his vote for two consecutive electoral periods must submit a request for a new registration in the electoral register in accordance with the procedures and conditions stipulated in Article 17 of this law.
Earlier, the date of elections was October 29, and the Ministry of Interior had been working hard to make it happen.
Efforts are underway for the elections to the tenth term of the Majlis Ash'shura, where as many as 883 candidates, including 33 women, are running for the seats in the next four-year session.
On October 29, the electronic voting process will be held to choose one member each from Oman's wilayats to take part in the State's decision-making process to help the Council of Ministers.
However, two members shall be elected to the Legislative body from any wilayat if its population exceeds 30,000.
'There has been an increase in the number of candidates compared with the last session where only 637 candidates vied for the seats, an increase of 245 candidates,' he said.
'We are overwhelmed to see the popularity of the electoral process, and public participation of the public is also sought in elections, besides the Shura, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the municipality, clubs, organisations, syndicates, and other forums where public opinion is requested in the decision-making process,' he said.
After the October 29th elections, the Chairman and his two deputies are elected from the members as per Article 58 [bis 12] at an extraordinary sitting at the invitation of His Majesty the Sultan for a similar term.
