E-commerce regulation issued

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion issued ministerial decision No 499/ 2023 to regulate the practice of e-commerce activity in the Sultanate of Oman.
The decision which comes within the national plan for e-commerce, aims at creating a legal and regulatory environment for the development and promotion of e-commerce, documenting local e-stores, facilitating access to these e-stores organizing operations related to buying and selling via the Internet, reducing e-commerce-related fraud, keeping pace in the field of regulating e-commerce and monitoring electronic stores.
The Sultanate of Oman, through the National Plan for e-commerce, seeks to diversify its national economy, to transform Oman to become a regional center for e-commerce and to promote the growth of this sector by enabling the development of e-commerce and enhancing the ability of the country to compete with regional centers in various sectors as well as enhancing consumer reliance on e-commerce and increasing awareness of the same.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion is keen to implement digital transformation in all fields, whether in the services it provides and to transform all its services into e-services , in order to improve and facilitate the business environment and to apply international best practices.
Moreover, the regulation stipulates that, a license to practice e-commerce must be obtained by submitting an application electronically via the “Invest Easy” portal.
