Pact inked to establish lab on developing services for the disabled

Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development on Tuesday signed an agreement with Oman International Development and Investment Company (Ominvest) for the establishment of a laboratory for developing services and programmes in favour of persons with disabilities.

The agreement was signed at the ministry’s premises by Dr Laila Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, and Abdulaziz Mohammed al Balushi, CEO of Ominvest Group.

The agreement was an inseparable part of efforts to implement Oman Vision 2040 and develop initiatives and projects that are compatible with the strategic priorities and objectives of the vision.

Speaking at the event, Dr Laila said that the programme embodies the existing partnership between the Ministry of Social Development and private sector institutions. She added that the establishment of such laboratories enhances the integration of efforts with partners in the disability service sector and complements previous efforts.

For his part, Abdulaziz al Balushi, CEO of Ominvest Group, said that Ominvest’s vision is based on selecting sustainable initiatives that support Omani society in a manner that consolidates the pillars of Oman Vision 2040.

He added that partnership with the Ministry of Social Development in supporting the project stems from a conviction to better serve persons with disabilities. “This segment constitutes an inseparable part of our Omani society and deserves to be provided with health, educational and recreational services,” Al Balushi added.
