Kerala Smashers to organise badminton tourney in Ghala on Sept 8

 
MUSCAT: An all-Oman badminton tournament will be organised at the Ghala badminton court on September 8, from 9am to 9pm, according to the organisers. The registration will end on Tuesday. (September 5)

Organised by Kerala Smashers, a group of badminton lovers, the tournament will witness skilled players from across the country descending down on the capital city to vie for the best badminton player in the region.

The annual tournament which is currently in its fourth season, will be conducted in knockout round in all four divisions -- premier, men's A, mixed doubles and and exclusive session for those above 45 years of age will be an added attraction this year.

While top players from Muscat will face each other in the premier section, the section for 45 and above will welcome veteran players from different governorates through the day-long matches.

'Anyone possessing a valid Omani resident card is eligible to participate in the tourney and we have received nearly 70 teams of now,' said Riyas, president of the Kerala Smashers, at the press briefing held at the Layali Restaurant in Ghala.

'Winners can look forward to prizes, trophy, and other valuable gifts and we are expecting the participation of more than 100 teams,' he said.

'We have plans of conducting an Inter-Regional Tourney for the top players from all the GCC countries at our own badminton court which will soon be functional,' Riyas added.

Launch of the official jersey too was held at the press meet in the presence of Samson, MD of Al Ruba Electrical Services.

Zakkariya, Kerala Smashers vice-president, Ajnas, secretary, Rajesh and Shanid, joint secretaries, Jaleel, treasurer and tournament coordinators, Dulkifli, Ebin, Moni, Thaju, Noufal, Aju and Nitin were present at the press briefing.
