SMEDA chairperson visits Dhofar to empower entrepreneurs

The Chairperson of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), Halima bint Rashid al Zareeya, recently visited the Dhofar Governorate as part of a tour of governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. During her stay, she met with government representatives, visited SMEDA offices, and attended a number of events aimed at promoting entrepreneurship.
One of the highlights of the Chairperson’s visit was a meeting with Dr Ahmed bin Mohsen al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar. The two discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between SMEDA and the Municipality of Dhofar in order to support the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the governorate. They also talked about the importance of creating a conducive environment for entrepreneurs, such as providing access to funding, training, and other resources.
Al Zareeya also visited the SMEDA headquarters in Dhofar Governorate. She met with staff and toured the facilities, which include a business incubation center and a training academy. She also received updates on the progress of SMEDA's various programs and initiatives.
In addition to her meetings and visits, the Chairperson also attended a number of events aimed at promoting entrepreneurship. These included the culminating ceremony of the youth challenges event, which featured an assessment of student projects and the subsequent recognition of top three projects with awards. She also virtually perused the Windows Park event website at Iteen Plain, which showcases the work of SMEs in the governorate.
Al Zareeya's visit to Dhofar was a great opportunity to learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing SMEs in the governorate. She also reiterated SMEDA's commitment to supporting the growth of these businesses, which are essential to the economic development of the Sultanate of Oman.
In a statement, she said, 'I am very impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit of the people of Dhofar. I am confident that with the support of SMEDA and other government agencies, these businesses will continue to grow and contribute to the economic development of the region.'
