Better safe in khareef than sorry

Visitors must be careful as Dhofar wadis report increased water levels

SALALAH: Incessant rain during the khareef season has led to increased water levels in the wadis of Dhofar Governorate. One such wadi benefitting from the seasonal showers is Wadi Darbat which, along with its splendid waterfalls, has been attracting growing numbers of tourists and visitors.

In response to the increased water levels, Dhofar Municipality, the Royal Oman Police, and the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance are continuing their intensive efforts to raise awareness and ensure that everyone follows the safety guidelines at water sites in Dhofar Governorate.

These guidelines include swimming only in designated areas, ban on swimming alone, no swimming while under the influence of alcohol or banned substances, no swimming in areas with strong currents or under waterfalls and supervising children closely while they are near water bodies.

The authorities are also urging people to follow the latest news and weather updates to stay informed of the conditions in the wadis.

The increased water levels are a reminder of the power of nature and the importance of taking precautions when visiting water bodies. By following the safety guidelines, everyone can enjoy the beauty of the wadis while staying safe.
