Oman beach volleyball team ranked 7th in Asia

MUSCAT: The Oman beach volleyball team has been ranked among the top 10 teams in Asia, the Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) announced on their social media platform on Saturday.
The OVA statement in their official social media platform in X, formerly known as Twitter, said: “The Oman beach volleyball team has been ranked in the seventh position of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) monthly ranking for the beach volleyball teams for July.'
The Oman beach volleyball teams will take part in the 19th edition of Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in September. It will be a key event for the team and they will look to shine and grab one of the medals in the Asian showpiece event.
Over the past years, Oman beach volleyball teams had excelled with top performance in all their regional, Arab, continental and global events. Oman's team of Nouh al Jalboobi and Mazin al Hashmi had claimed the title and won gold medals at the 27th Arab Beach Volleyball Championship in Agadir, Morocco, in 2018. The Oman A team pair of Ahmed al Hosni and Haitham al Shraiqi were the champions at the 28th Arab Beach Volleyball Championship which was hosted in Salalah in 2019.
The national beach volleyball teams (A and B), coached by the national head coach Khalifa al Jabri, took part in the 2023 Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championship in Fuzhou, China, which was held last June. The Oman team comprising Ahmed al Hosni and Haitham al Shraiqi had booked a slot in the last 16 round. The Omani pair lost 2-0 against the Australian players in the knockout stage (round 16) to end their campaign in Fuzhou.
The four-day Asian event featured participation of 58 teams from 15 countries including 32 men’s teams.

Oman Team A comprising Al Hosni and Al Shraiqi were grouped with Indonesia’s Sofyan and Danag, Qatar’s Abdullah and M Ihab, the Philippines’ Garcia and Burlrago in Pool H, while Oman’s Team B featuring Al Jalbobi and Al Hashmi were clubbed with New Zealand (Reid and McManaway), Australia (Nicolaidis and Carracher) and Kazakhstan (Kuleshov and Petrossyants) in Pool E.
The Omani duo of Al Hosni and Al Shraiqi began their matches in the Asian tournament with a 2-1 win over the Philippines with scores 21-15, 22-24 and 11-15. Then, the Oman duo had excelled in a thrilling show against Qatar’s pair Abdullah and M Ihab to snatch a 2-0 triumph at 21-14, 21-10.
Later, the Indonesian pair had defeated Oman in the following match by 2-0 (21-18, 21-17). With two victories and one defeat, Oman progressed to round 16 before they went down to a 2-0 (21-19, 21-11) loss against Australia. The Australian pair of Zach Schubert and Tom Hodges had emerged the 2023 Asian Beach Volleyball Champions after they edged their team-mates Def McHugh/ Burnett 2-0 to win the men’s gold medals in the final showdown.
On the other hand, Oman’s Team B duo of Nouh al Jalbobi and Mazin al Hashmi had finished their campaign in the group stage.
