Khareef Dhofar is a destination for visitors to escape from the summer heat. So many visitors resort to visiting it during the season, especially by road. Therefore, care and attention must be exercised while driving on the road to Dhofar Governorate.
Official data published by the National Centre for Statistics and Information showed that 80 per cent of the visitors to Khareef Dhofar used the land ports.
It should be noted that the government of the Sultanate of Oman is taking all steps to provide safer roads for tourists and residents too, but caution is an essential requirement, and one should avoid driving irresponsibly and plan to take a break from time to time.
It is also, necessary to pay attention to the sandy dunes along the roads, as the sand on the road poses a danger, and it is very difficult to know where the edge of the road is, as the stability of the tyres decreases, and dust may obscure unexpected dangers such as the presence of other vehicles that are not visible on the other lane. Where the road leading to Salalah sometimes witnesses the spread of dust plankton and a decrease in visibility due to the dusty winds that the governorate is exposed to.
For safer driving in dust and fog or when horizontal visibility is low, it is necessary to leave a sufficient distance between vehicles, and adhere to preventive driving, not to change lanes except for necessity, close the windows of the vehicle to prevent the entry of dust, and turn on the front lights and searchlights.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has also made efforts to provide more security and safety for road users, leading to Dhofar, by deploying police patrols and a number of speed control devices to enhance road safety, provide aid and assistance and reduce rash behaviours that pose a danger to road users.
The traffic plan carried out by the ROP included advice and guidance provided by the General Traffic Department on the Salalah road line, and awareness also included providing some electronic notices in the form of “infographics” through all social media, and the plan also included traffic control, which is a step added to efforts to reduce traffic accidents.
It is necessary to exercise caution while driving vehicles, especially when it is necessary to check the vehicle and adhere to the load, and check vehicle tyres, spare tyre in the vehicle, and air pressure, because these precautions have an effective role in reducing fatal traffic accidents.
The Royal Oman Police draws the attention of motorists to be aware of the presence of sand dunes on the roads, especially at night times, and not to be distracted by other things on the road.
