Al Balushi wins 100 km race in Dhofar

 
MUSCAT: Khalid bin Said al Balushi riding on Marquis Royle won the 100 km endurance race at Khor Al Dahariz beach in the Wilayat of Salalah.

The race was organised by the Oman Equestrian Federation, as part of the Khareef Dhofar activities for 2023 in association with the Dhofar Equestrian Committee, the Dhofar Governor’s Office, and the Dhofar Municipality and sponsored by Hala FM.

Twenty six horses from the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman took part in the race comprising three stages; the first red-colour stage was 38 km long , the second red-colour stage 38 km and and the third green-colour stage 24 km.

Marquess Royle is owned by Khalil bin Mohammed al Dhaheri and trained by Mohammed bin Dawood al Balushi.



The runners-up was Al Muntasir bin Hassan al Balushi, on the horse HM Luntaco, which is owned by Al Bahja Stables and trained by by Mohammed bin Hassan al Balushi.

Nibras bin Said al Balushi claimed the third prize on King, which is owned by Ahmed bin Ali al Ansari and trained by Abed bin Abdullah al Balushi.

HH Sayyid Saud bin Harib bin Thuwaini al Said gave prizes to the winners in the presence of Ahmed bin Saif al Abri, Secretary-General of the Oman Equestrian Federation.

Al Abri said; 'The day before the race, we started the veterinary examination for the endurance race. The competition started with ponies and prizes were sponsored by Oman LNG Company. The field and tracks were prepared early for the race, and a traditional village model was set up in Al Dahariz beach. The 100-km race witnessed strong competition where all horses passed the finishing line.'

Oman Equestrian Federation will hold another endurance race in Dhofar on August 19.
